Outdoor café culture
With its many large squares, The Hague is a great place to enjoy Holland's famous outdoor café culture. For a spot of celebrity spotting visit the Plein square and you might come across some Dutch ministers enjoying lunch or drinks after work. A more student-like audience can found at the Grote Markt square. The Denneweg, Frederikstraat and Noordeinde have some great chic outdoor cafés.
Brasserie Dudok
Since its opening in January 2001 Dudok Den Haag has been a great success. The large and impressive brasserie on the Hofweg is right across from the parliamentary buildings of the Binnenhof, and is the place to be! This is where a virtual 'who's who' of the city hangs out. The interior has been designed to fit in with The Hague's character and culture, the concept is completely based on its successful sister company at the Meent in Rotterdam.
Café Restaurant Greve (Torenstraat 138, The Hague)
Cafe Restaurant Greve is a household name in The Hague; a characteristic place, known for its special architectural design. Large but intimate, based in a former car showroom, and underneath the oldest multi-storey carpark in the Netherlands, the Torengarage. Have a drink with, as it were, dozens of cars above your head, and enjoy the light coming through the large windows all around the oval-shaped room, and the relaxed and trendy atmosphere. On Wednesday nights at 10 p.m., there is a Noche de Salsa, with free salsa dancing lessons starting at 9 o'clock. The restaurant offers a brasserie menu providing an ample choice of inexpensive dishes.
Cocoon (Spui 6, The Hague)
Cocoon is situated right in the centre of town at the Spui. The motto of this 2-storey lounge is 'Drink, Dine & Dance'. The ground floor is the 'Drink & Dine' area, where you can enjoy several small dishes. Cocoon's basement is reserved for 'Dance'. After a bite you can dance to music of well-known Dutch DJ's.
On both floors you can do some serious relaxing in the many chairs and sofas in the lounge. During the summer Cocoon is open from 17.00 hours for nice wines, cocktails, easy food and music.
