Cycling routes in bloom

Holland and flowers are often mentioned in one and the same breath. This means it is possible to go on lovely scenic bicycle tours, particularly in the springtime, when the tulips and the blossoms are in bloom.

Flowering bulb fields
During the spring in South Holland the flowers in the bulb fields between Haarlem and Sassenheim (near Leiden) are in bloom. Bicycle between bright red, yellow and purple-coloured fields. The Flower Bulb Route can be purchased from the VVV (Tourist Information Office) in Lisse. Along this route you'll also pass the Keukenhof. The route is 30 kilometres long. The best time to see the bulbs in bloom is around mid-April (or a little earlier or later, depending on the weather).

Blossoming beauty
Fruit has been grown along the Linge River in the province of Gelderland for centuries. The Betuwe region is therefore also called the 'orchard of the Netherlands'. The fruit trees are in bloom from mid-April to mid-May (or a little earlier or later, depending on the weather). This is the best time to bike the Lingelusthof Route. This 43 kilometres long route is signposted with green ANWB signs that read 'Lingeroute' and can be started in, for example, Asperen, where bicycles can also be rented at the train station.
