The cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen are surrounded by beautiful green landscapes. National Parks are plentiful with the Veluwezoom and Hoge Veluwe located very close by. As you make your way along the many cycle, foot and bridle paths, don't be surprised if you stumble across the odd red deer.

National Park the Hoge Veluwe
Both Arnhem and Nijmegen are bordered by the grassy plains and sparsely covered drift sands of the Hoge Veluwe National Park, which spans an impressive 5,500 acres. Its flora & fauna are unique in Holland and many endangered species can be found here. Zoom around on the free white bikes provided by the park. You can obtain a white bike from various pick-up points in the park.

National Park Veluwezoom
The National Park Veluwezoom is one of the largest nature areas in Holland and great for cycling and walking. You'll come across stretched pinewoods, heathland and historic country estates. The park is also home to many protected animal species and is of particular interest to bird watching aficionados. In and around the park you will find many picturesque villages like Rozendaal and De Steeg.

Gelderse Poort
The Gelderse Poort is an attractive nature area, situated partly in Holland and Germany. It's where the Rhine enters Holland and meanders in smaller rivers like the Waal and IJssel. As a result of many changing tides, little zigzagging streams and trenches, a varied landscape arose with a rich flora & fauna.

Cycling paths
The Arnhem & Nijmegen region and its green surroundings, are ideal for hiking and cycling. Its extensive and convenient cycling network and foot paths take you through picturesque villages, forests, heathland and along lakes, museums and many other attractions.
