
Madurodam
The world-famous miniature city Madurodam presents everything Holland is famous for replicated to the smallest detail on a scale of 1:25. It’s an excellent way to familiarise yourself with all surprising features Holland has to offer: the Alkmaar cheese market, the Peace Palace of The Hague, the Royal Palace on Dam Square and canal houses of Amsterdam and parts of the world famous Delta works.
Squares, statues and architecture
The Hague is a city of many faces. When entering the city by car, the first thing you see is The Hague’s imposing and impressive skyline. In the future, more buildings will be added, which will give the city’s business centre a modern and sleek look. Near the big white city hall, designed by Richard Meijer, lies the modern centre for Business & Government with its high buildings and modern squares. Lovers of historical architecture can enjoy The Hague to their hearts' content in the grand old streets near the Binnenhof and the Noordeinde Palace. The architect H.P. Berlage also built a number of striking buildings in The Hague, including the Gemeentemuseum The Hague.
Panorama mesdag
This is an enormous cylindrical painting by H.W. Mesdag. At 1680 m2, it's the largest painting in Holland and one of the largest and most striking in the world. Stand in the middle and view life as it was in 1881 when Scheveningen was a peaceful fishing village.
Green city
The Hague’s many leafy lanes and large parks create a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The walled palace garden behind Noordeinde Palace are especially worth a visit. Just outside The Hague you’ll find woodlands that stretch from the city towards the coast. A great way to explore this area is by bike or by boat. Tours leave from City Mondial (Wagenstraat). Bikes can be hired from The Hague’s main train stations. Just a stone's throw away from the city centre you’ll find the dunes and long sandy beaches of Scheveningen and Kijkduin.
Sculptures by the sea
The Scultures by the Sea museum in Scheveningen has a great collection of sculptures, set in a dramatic location overlooking the North Sea. In front of the museum on the boulevard of Scheveningen you can admire the exhibition Fairytale sculptures by the Sea for free. It boasts a balcony, steps, small islands, benches and pedestals for 23 enchanting sculptures by New York sculptor Tom Otterness from New York.

Kuur Thermen Vitalizee Spa in Scheveningen is an ideal way to unwind. You will feel like a new person after a visit to the various saunas and steam rooms or a relaxing dip in the swimming pool.
Dance & music
At the centre of the city the Dr. Anton Philipszaal, home to the Residentie Orkest and the Lucent Dans Theater , home to the Nederlands Dans Theater, are next to each other. They provide the city with a cultural ambiance of classical music and dance. Here, you can regularly see performances of classical and modern music. The quality of the dancers and choreographers of the National Dance Theatre 1, is world-renowned.
The peace palace
The Peace Palace is a gift from the American Andrew Carnegie to the city of The Hague. This palace was given the name of Peace Palace, to express the great importance attached to this endeavour to solve disputes and so to maintain world peace. For the design of the building, an international competition was held. The French architect Cordonnier was the winner. The Dutch architect Van der Steur amended his design. All nations contributed towards the construction of the Peace Palace by making available characteristics products of their soil, art of industry, in this way symbolising the collaboration of the nations in the foundation of this "Temple of Peace". For example, Switzerland contributed the clock in the bell tower. The Peace Palace houses the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Academy of International Law and a splendid library. Guided tours are only possible by advance booking.
Art and antiques walk
The 'Art and Antiques Walk The Hague' takes you on a discovery of the world of art and antiques in The Hague. It promises to be a special tour of the many antique shops, galleries and auctioneering firms (available in Dutch and English). You can buy this walking tour at the Tourist Office Information in the city centre of The Hague (Hofweg 1, opposite the Binnenhof).
Royal tour 2006
During the Royal Tour, a highly experienced guide will take you on a 3-hour driving and walking tour through The Hague and provide you with a thorough introduction to the city and the Dutch royal family. It passes by the palaces of The Hague, including Noordeinde, Lange Voorhout and Kneuterdijk. You will visit Knights' Hall and one of the city's museums. Once all participants have boarded the bus, the Royal Tour will take you to Scheveningen where you will become acquainted with the town's history as a fishing village and what it is today: a modern seaside resort. Here, the bus will travel the lovely boulevard running along the wide beaches and past the ever-bustling Scheveningen harbours. This tour can be booked at the tourist board office in The Hague and Scheveningen.
