Maastricht was voted best shopping city of Holland
Roam through Maastricht's historic streets and stop for coffee and vlaai (a delicious kind of fruit tart, and the local speciality) at one of the many pavement cafés or cosy bars!
Shops are generally open from 13.00 until 18.00 on Monday. From Tuesday until Friday from 9.00 until 18.00 and on Saturday from 9.00 until 17.00. Late shopping on Thursdays till 21.00. Every first Sunday of the month and some extra Sundays, shops are also open. Check with the local tourist board in Maastricht for exact dates and opening hours.
City centre
You can find everything from antiques and department stores to speciality shops and interior design. In the area between central station and The Vrijthof square, you find many shops and department stores.
Wyck neighbourhood
Located on the eastern banks of the river Maas, this is one of the oldest parts of the city. Here you can find many antiques, delicatessen, fashion and design stores.
Stokstraatkwartier Neighbourhood
This picturesque area on the western banks of the river Maas has many nice terraces, cafés and restaurants and exclusive upmarket shops, fashion houses and galleries.
Deparkment stores
The recently opened Bijenkorf is a major exclusive department store on the Maastrichter Brugstraat.
Markets
Pretty much everyday is a market day in Maastricht. On Wednesday and Friday morning there is a general market on the Market square, opposite the City Hall. On Thursday a market selling local specialities and farm produce can be found in the Stationstraat. On Friday you'll find a large fish market in the Boschstraat, next to the Market square. Every Saturday Stationstraat is the place to be for some bargain hunting at Maastricht's flea market.
