Masterworks of the Golden Age in the Rijksmuseum
20 December 2003 through 2010
From 20 December 2003 the Philips wing of the Rijksmuseum will be presenting all its 17th-century masterworks. The presentation will comprise the highlights of northern Dutch painting and sculpture, crafts and history of the Golden Age. Here visitors will be able to admire paintings by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals in an ideal entourage, surrounded by masterworks dating from the same period in the fields of silver, Delftware, furniture, sculpture and historical objects. The presentation will put the accent on the exceptional standard of the works and the concurrent political and economic miracle of the Golden Age: the sudden rising prosperity of the young Republic of the United Provinces and its leading role as a trading nation. The works will remain on show in the Philips wing until mid-2010, when the renovated main part of the Rijksmuseum will be opened to the public again.
