Museum for Modern Art

Cornelis Outshoorn
Eschauzier, Henkelt, Schrijver
Utrechtseweg 87
Arnhem
The building that is home to this museum was built in 1873 by Cornelis Outshoorn. In 1920, it became the location of the Municipal Museum. Throughout the years, many things changed. The two largest changes were the addition of a new wing in 1956 (Eschauzier) and the most recent addition, a new pavilion for the bar-restaurant. This addition is designed by Hubert-Jan Henket, who chose a simple volume, covered by a large metal shed roof and offers excellent views of the river Rine through the glass walls.
Three special pavilions in the museum are the Koepelzaal (the oldest part of the musem), the Rijnzaal (designed by Eschauzier) and the Tuinzaal. The latter has been re-designed in 1997 by architectural designer Ward Schrijver.
