ING House

1
Amstelveenseweg 500
Year of construction: 2000
The shoe-shaped building on the southern Amsterdam ring road is an eye-catching structure. These unusually shape premises are the ING House. The office building was commissioned by the ING Bank and was designed by Meyer and Van Schooten.
Steel and Glass
The glass building rests on nine to twelve-meter-high pillars. The building is quite low on the side of the Amsterdamse Bos wood. On the eastern side, where additional high rise buildings have been planned, the building is ten stories high. Steel and glass predominate in the construction. Because of the ample use of glass, everyone working in the building has great views. ING House has climate-controlled outer walls. These ensure that outside noise is muffled and clean air comes in. The project has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Aluminum Award and the National Steel Prize 2002. The striking shape of the building has earned it several nicknames, including the 'iron' and the 'money shoe'.
Efficient and open
As this is an office building, functionality was an important issue in its design. ING House supports a new way of working. The interior boasts a large number of atriums, loggias, patios and courtyards. The offices are efficient and open. This openness stimulates people who work in the building to establish contact.
Zuidas
A new part of Amsterdam, Zuidas (South Axle), is being developed between the Amstel river and the Schinkel. ING House is located on Zuidas. It is an attractive location for companies, as it is close to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and train station Zuid/WTC. Some 50,000 people will work in this new part of Amsterdam in the future.
