World Trade Center
Strawinskylaan 1
Period of construction: 1981-1985

Her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix opened the World Trade Center (WTC) in Amsterdam on October 25, 1985. The WTC was soon nicknamed the 'Blue Angel'. Quite an apt name as the building is located in a prime location, close to main roads, the airport and the train station.

Metamorphosis
In the past four years the WTC has undergone a complete metamorphosis. The last phase of the renovation project commenced in April 2003. Architectural firm Kohn Pederson Fox designed the new part of the building. A transparent entrance will replace the building's front. This will give the World Trade Center a more open character.

Moving pavement
An arresting architectural element is the completely transparent and covered entrance to the bicycle shed. A moving pavement takes cyclists to this underground bicycle shed.
The design of the new World Trade Center was awarded the Architectural Award of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2003.

Zuidplein
The WTC building is located on stylish Zuidplein, which boasts many trees, shrubs and outdoor cafes. Shops and bars will open up on both sides of this square. Zuidplein is a part of the Zuidas area. The Zuidas is a new city center; a great place in which to live, work and relax.
