Arcam

Prins Hendrikkade 600
Period of construction: 2002-2003
Amsterdam's Architecture Center Arcam has moved to an exciting new building on Oosterdok. Dutch architect René van Zuuk designed the building in 2003. It is located between the NEMO Science Center and the Netherlands Maritime Museum.
Three levels
The new Arcam building is an architectural asset for Amsterdam. The narrow, low-lying Oosterdok quay inspired the architect. The compact building comprises three levels. An exposition room is located on the Prins Hendrikkade level. Offices are situated above this exposition area. The lowest level, on the water, is a multifunctional area for meetings and gatherings of medium-sized groups. The glass front, which spans two stories, affords great views across the water.
Spectacular
The building's most striking aspect on the city side is the aluminium skin. It has been folded over the building in such a way as to make quite a spectacular entrance. The sculptural shape ensures that this building, though limited in size and modest, will be a future landmark in the monumental Oosterdok area.
