Prince Johan Maurits called it home; Vermeer, Rembrandt and Potter found a home here, and we would like you to feel at home here too.

The Building
In the center of The Hague, directly adjacent to the Binnenhof government buildings on the Hofvijver pond, the mansion of Johan Maurits, Count of Nassau Siegen, governor-general of Dutch Brazil, arose around 1640. The strictly classical building was designed and built by Jacob van Campen and Pieter Post, the two most important Dutch architects of that time. Since 1822, the intimate `Mauritshuis' has housed the Royal Cabinet of Paintings, one of the most famous collections in the world.

The Collection
The core of the collection consists of masterpieces from the Dutch Golden Age, including paintings by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Potter and Ruisdael and numerous other masters. But there is much more to see. The works on permanent display provide a magnificent panorama of Dutch and Flemish art from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century; from Flemish primitives to sunlit landscapes, from biblical characters to meticulous still lifes, and from calm interiors to humorous genre scenes.

Guest in The Mauritshuis
The ambience of the Mauritshuis is the magnificent place for you dinner, reception or presentation.
The ‘Gouden Zaal’ (Golden Room) does full honor to its name. Here you may savor the pleasant atmosphere, surrounded by the greatest achievements of the Dutch and Flemish masters of the Golden Century.

Dinners
In the ‘Gouden Zaal’ you will be able to seat 75 people at dinner. By annexing the siderooms, the company may be increased to 125 people.

Receptions
Receptions within the ample confines of the ‘Gouden Zaal’ are limited to a maximum of about 100 people. By employing the entire museum, receptions of up to 300 people may be arranged. The hall offers a splendid setting for music ensembles.

Presentations and lectures
Presentations and lectures can be held during those hours that the museum is open to the public. The ‘Gouden Zaal’ guarantees the most optimal of circumstances. Between 50 and 100 people can be accomodated at such exclusive gatherings.
