Various theaters and concert halls, Amsterdam
May 29 through June 24, 2007
The Holland Festival is the annual trend-setting, innovative and adventurous high point of the cultural season in Holland. Since it was founded in 1947, the Holland Festival has aimed to present topical and innovative achievements in the dramatic arts - music, opera, theatre, dance – both in the most classical sense and experimental. The festival is a podium for about 30 productions in 80 shows.
International programme
The Holland Festival aims to offer an international programme with a broad base extending as far as more popular genres such as pop music and entertainment. It also aims to breakthrough the artificial division between 'high' and 'low' culture.
Opening night
The Holland Festival will open its 60th season with Leoš Janá?ek's opera From the House of the Dead. This opera is a co-production between the Holland Festival, the Wiener Festwochen, La Scala in Milano, the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the New York Metropolitan Opera. Such a collaboration between five internationally renowned festivals and opera houses is a daring exploit that occurs rarely in the operatic world. Thanks to the participation of international top artists from throughout the world it also truly deserves to be called spectacular.
