Avercamp exhibition this fall in the Rijksmuseum

The Little Ice Age; an unique exhibition of Hendrik Avercamp will be on show at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam from November 21 until February 14, 2010.
Hendrick Avercamp is the quintessential painter of Dutch winter scenes in the 17th century.
Couples skating, well-dressed gentlemen playing kolf, a sleigh drawn by spirited horses, children throwing snowballs at each other or some poor lad who has just tumbled through the ice: Avercamp had a keen eye for an anecdotal detail.
This is the first exhibition at the Rijksmuseum dedicated exclusively to this artist and his popular winter scenes. From November 21 a selection of his finest paintings and drawings will be shown, with works from collections such as Billedgaleri in Norway, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the National Gallery in London.
