Dutch Windmills
For centuries Dutch windmills have held an irresistible attraction for artists. It was the old masters such as Willem Bastiaan Tholen, Jan Jacob Spohler and Jan van Goyen who immortalized these wonderful machines and, by doing so, have left a heritage on canvas for future generations to come. Up to about a hundred years ago there were still 10,000 working windmills... today, that number has dwindled to about 1,200.We have to cherish these windmills, not only for ourselves but also for the hundreds of thousands of knowing tourists that visit our country from the four corners of the earth to gaze at and admire these, often still working, monuments and memories of times gone by.
Windmills are inextricably bound to our history and culture. Thanks to windmills, our feet remained dry and without industrial windmills, Holland would never have flourished as it has done. For the series entitled Dutch Windmills Art & Reality, we only filmed exteriors when we were sure of having the wonderful “Dutch light” in all its variety and colours. Thus, each DVD’s release is dependent on how many days we are blessed with this “Dutch light” to be able to film.
Dutch Windmills Art & Reality is set to become a breathtaking experience in images with its own special human side, and well worth the waiting…
