Vledder, Drenthe
Imagine getting to touch the Mona Lisa or sit on a Rietveld chair! At the Museum of Fake Art in the town of Vledder in the northern province of Drenthe, you can do that and more. This museum is filled with art - fake art, that is!
It’s all fake!
The museum boasts a collection of fake works by such painters as Hobbema, Mondriaan and Toorop. It even has a copy of the most famous sculpture made by French sculptor Rodin: The Thinker. The collection also includes pricey Breitling and Rolex watches, coins, Egyptian mummies, rare vases, gold jewellery and gems – and none of it is real!
Recognising a forgery
During the guided tour, visitors learn how a forger works. And once you watch the video presentation on forgeries, you’ll know exactly how to spot a forgery… should you become interested one day in purchasing a unique work of art or expensive piece of jewellery.
