Centre artificial light in art

Eindhoven, Noord Brabant

Few people give much thought to the phenomenon of artificial light. When it gets dark, you simply switch on a few lights. But artificial light, from the very first candles to modern-day LED lights, have had a significant effect on society. Consider such developments as the 24-hour economy, higher levels of night-time safety, and light itself (fibre optics) as a global means of communication, not to mention light as an artistic form.

Wide variety of art
The Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst combines all of this in an unexpected and fascinating collection with a wide variety of works of art from renowned international artists who have found inspiration in artificial light: a painted street scene from Paris, the city of light, fluorescent car parts lit up by black light, Perspex objects and more. Fittingly, the entire centre is housed in a former light bulb factory.
