Cycling in Zeeland

The province of Zeeland in the south west of Holland consists for several larger and smaller islands. After the 1953 flood disaster when dikes broke and the sea invaded the country, the dikes were all made wider and higher and sea arms were closed by new dikes. This achievement is known as the Delta works. Zeeland is an excellent area for combining cycling and boating. There are a lot of seasonal ferries making it possible to cycle several loops in this province. Routes vary from 6 to 75 miles and take you through historic towns and beautiful nature reserves.
