First Streetlab Festival in the Westergasfabriek Culture Park

Amsterdam will further define its position as a creative melting pot this July with the first edition of a new international festival on ‘street fashion’ and ‘street art’. The festival will take place during Amsterdam International Fashion Week, from 27 – 29 July 2007 in the Westergasfabriek Culture Park. The event is an initiative of cultural organisations, Premsela and the Cultuurfabriek. During Streetlab, Amsterdam will become the street capital of the world with a wide variety of exhibitions, fashion shows, performances, music, workshops and films by up and coming national and international artists and fashion designers. The heart of the festival is a large scale exhibition with works by up-and-coming national and international artists and fashion designers. Additional expositions will be on display by, amongst others, Antoine Peters (NL), Henrik Vibskov (DK), Hanazuki (NL), Your Cup of T (NL), Bas Kosters (NL), Emily Hermans (NL), Ursula Pelt (NL), So Last Season (S), Soulland (DK), Woodwood (DK) and the latest top talents in street fashion from Dutch fashion academies. The world-famous sneaker exhibition, Sneaker Pimps (USA), will be on display during the Streetlab Festival. Sneaker Pimps, shown in the Netherlands for the first time, consists of over 1000 unique and customized sneakers by designers such as Dave White, Methamphibian, Ewok and Sbtg. Collections by Leyp, Barbara Karel, Lijfstijl, MC Nina and Mr. Wix will also be featured. Workshops and Master Classes will be given by style guru Ted Polhemus (UK), stylist Ruud van der Peijl, street art expert Tristan Manco (UK), photographers Arie Versluis and Elly Uyttenbroek (NL) and trend-watcher Mare Nieborg. An extensive outdoor programme including music, live street art, bmx biking, food and drink, films, documentaries and photography exhibits will take place during the festival.
